JACOPO TEZZA
ACADEMY DIRECTOR
Verona, Italy on February 1st, 1981
Jacopo Tezza joined the Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Florida, in 2010 and has served as Academy Director since 2014. In this role, Jacopo oversees the delivery of the academy’s tennis program and admissions process, organizes the tournament schedule, hires and manages the academy’s coaching staff, and ensures the performance and development of the coaching team. He also leads the academy’s college placement program, serves as Tournament Director of the academy’s J100 ITF event, serves as the primary point of contact for the academy’s technical sponsors such as Wilson as others,— and collaborates closely with the Sales & Marketing Department, working directly with prospective families and full-time student-athletes considering the academy.
Jacopo’s path to leadership was forged on the court. Born and raised in Verona, Italy, he began playing tennis as a child and rose to become a top-five ranked junior competitor in Italy, representing his country in the Junior Davis Cup and posting notable junior career victories over players including David Nalbandian, Nicolas Mahut, Joachim Johansson, Filippo Volandri, and Andreas Seppi. By age 17, he had already earned ATP ranking points on the professional circuit. He went on to compete for Texas Christian University, where he helped lead the Horned Frogs to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance and a conference championship, while earning multiple All-Conference selections of his own competing at the No. 2, 3, and 4 singles positions. He graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in International Communication. Jacopo later pursued graduate studies at the University of Central Florida, earning a Master of Science in Mass Media Communication in 2009 while serving as an assistant coach for the UCF women’s tennis team.
Since joining Evert Tennis Academy, Jacopo has developed players who have gone on to compete on the professional tour, including Madison Keys, Lauren Davis, Maria Sanchez, Olivia Rogowska, and Beatrice Capra. He has also developed and placed numerous players at the collegiate Division I level, including Mayu Crossley — a former No. 5 ITF junior world-ranked player and winner of the prestigious Orange Bowl and Eddie Herr international junior championships, who went on to reach a career-high professional ranking of No. 320 and now competes for UCLA — as well as Claire An and Ellie Coleman (Duke University), Gabi De Simone (USC), Riley Crowder (Ole Miss), Elaine Chervinsky (Virginia), and Rachel Chong (Notre Dame), among many others. His combination of elite playing experience, academic training in communications, and years of hands-on coaching leadership continues to shape the next generation of competitive tennis talent at Evert.
